As a teacher, I have many hopes for my students. To receive their gratitude is affirming in the sense that these hopes may be realised. Yes, saying thank you can be habitual but there are times when a nuance can be detected. Perhaps other teachers have felt the same after a lesson where everything seems to flow in synchronicity.
